Instructions

Make the Sauce

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the creamy mayonnaise, French dressing, dill pickle relish, minced onion, granulated sugar, white vinegar, and garlic powder until well combined. Cover and refrigerate to allow the flavors to meld.

Cook the Sloppy Joe Meat

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned and crumbled, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Drain any excess grease from the skillet, then stir in the beef stock, ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, kosher salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer; cover and let cook for about 10 minutes. Remove the lid and simmer for another 5-10 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.

Assemble the Sandwiches

  • On a plate, place a bottom bun. Spoon the sloppy joe meat onto the bun, add a slice of American cheese, drizzle with the sauce, sprinkle with shredded lettuce, and top with the other bun.
  • For added flavor, consider toasting the buns lightly on the skillet before assembly.

Notes

Always drain excess grease from the ground beef, toast the buns to avoid sogginess, and adjust seasonings to personal taste.
