Ingredients
  

For the Cake

For the Custard

  • 2 cups whole milk Creamy base for rich filling.
  • ¼ cup cornstarch Helps thicken the custard.

For the Ganache

  • 1 cup high-quality chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar To create luscious ganache.
  • 1 cup heavy cream Rich and velvety.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  • In another bowl, beat the softened butter until fluffy and light in color, about 2 minutes.
  • Add the eggs to the butter one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Slowly pour in the whole milk and vanilla extract, combining until smooth.
  • Gradually fold the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, being careful not to overmix.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown.

Custard Preparation

  • While the cakes cool, whisk together the 2 cups of whole milk, cornstarch, granulated sugar, and egg yolks in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Stir continuously until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

Ganache Preparation

  • Heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan until just below boiling.
  • Pour the hot cream over the chocolate chips in a bowl and let it sit for 2-3 minutes. Stir until completely smooth.

Assembly

  • Once the cake layers have cooled, place one layer on a serving platter and spread custard evenly on top.
  • Add the second cake layer on top and drizzle the ganache over the whole cake.

Notes

Best served chilled; decorate with whipped cream or chocolate shavings. Can be made ahead of time.
