  • 1 tbsp neutral oil (like avocado, canola, or grapeseed) Provides an essential base for sautéing without overpowering flavors.
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil For finishing, adds a rich, nutty aroma.
  • 4-5 cloves garlic (minced) Aromatic, pungent, and a true flavor booster.
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger (minced) Offers a warm, spicy kick.
  • 2 green onions (thinly sliced) Adds brightness and color.
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (toasted) Crunchy and nutty, perfect for garnish.

Sauce ingredients

  • 0.25 cup low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari) Provides a salty backbone to the sauce.
  • 3 tbsp light brown sugar (packed) Introduces desired sweetness.
  • 1 tbsp honey (or maple syrup) A touch of natural sweetness.
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar Adds a delightful tang.
  • 0.5 tsp red pepper flakes For those who love a bit of heat.
  • 1 tsp cornstarch Helps thicken the sauce.
  • 1 tbsp water (for cornstarch slurry) Blends with cornstarch for a smooth consistency.
  • 2 tbsp water (for steaming/sautéing) Ensures the beans get moisture.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Trim the ends of the green beans and wash them thoroughly.
  • Mince the garlic and ginger, then slice the green onions finely; set aside.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes.
  • In another bowl, mix the cornstarch with 1 tbsp of water to make a slurry.

Cooking

  • Heat the neutral oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the green beans and sauté for about 4-5 minutes until bright green and crisp-tender.
  • Push the beans to one side of the skillet and add the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for 30-60 seconds.
  • Pour the sauce mixture and add 2 tbsp of water, tossing to coat the beans.
  • Let it simmer for 1-2 minutes to allow the beans to absorb the flavors.
  • Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for an additional 30-60 seconds until the sauce is glossy and thick.
  • Remove from heat, drizzle with sesame oil, and garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
  • Serve immediately for the best experience!
