Preparation

  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat until it glistens.
  • Add the rice to the skillet, stirring constantly until it turns light golden brown.
  • Push the rice aside in the skillet and add the finely diced onion. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  • Stir in the minced garlic for another minute until aromatic.
  • Combine the toasted rice with the onion-garlic mixture.
  • Pour in the chicken broth, tomato sauce, cumin, and salt. Bring to a gentle boil.
  • Once bubbling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 25-35 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and fluff the rice with a fork. Garnish with chopped cilantro if desired.

Notes

Rinse the rice before cooking to remove excess starch. Adjust seasoning during cooking as needed. Experiment with different types of rice and spices for variations.
