Ingredients
  

For the Cookie Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Provides a tender and fluffy base.
  • 1 tsp baking powder Creates a light and airy cookie.

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Brings creamy richness.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Provides sweetness.
  • 1 large egg Binds ingredients and adds moisture.
  • 1 Tbsp whole milk Helps the dough come together.
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract Adds aromatic depth.

For the Icing

  • 3 cups confectioners’ sugar Essential for the icing.
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup Gives icing a glossy finish.
  • 1/4 cup whole milk Achieves a smooth icing consistency.
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract Flavors the icing.
  • to taste brown food coloring For coloring the icing.
  • to taste brown sanding sugar Adds crunch and enhances appearance.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy and light in color.
  • Add the egg, milk, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  • Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Baking

  • On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thick and cut with a football cookie cutter.
  • Freeze the cut cookies for 10 minutes to maintain shape during baking.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes until the edges are golden.
  • Let cool completely on a wire rack.

Icing

  • Prepare the icing by mixing the confectioners’ sugar, corn syrup, milk, and vanilla in a bowl.
  • Color the icing brown, pipe outlines on the cookies, and flood the insides with thinner icing.
  • Sprinkle brown sanding sugar on top before the icing sets.
  • Use reserved white icing to pipe laces on each cookie.

Notes

Make sure butter is softened for best results. Chill the dough adequately and allow cookies to cool completely before icing.
