Cheese Filling

Breading Mixture

Preparation

  • Peel the onions and slice them into rings about 1/2-inch thick. Carefully separate the rings.
  • Slice the mozzarella cheese into strips that fit inside the onion rings.
  • Nestle a smaller onion ring inside a larger one and stuff the center with mozzarella cheese.
  • Freeze the stuffed onion rings for about an hour.

Breading

  • Prepare your breading station with flour in one bowl, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs in the last.
  • Coat each onion ring with flour, dip in beaten eggs, and roll in breadcrumbs. Repeat egg and breadcrumb steps for extra crunch.

Frying

  • Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Test with a piece of bread; if it sizzles, you're ready.
  • Carefully fry the onion rings for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.
  • Remove the fried onion rings and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  • Serve hot with marinara sauce on the side.

Notes

For best results, make sure to freeze the onion rings thoroughly before frying. Avoid overcrowding the frying pan and ensure the oil is hot enough to maintain crispiness.
