Ingredients
  

For the cake

  • 0.25 cups Cold Butter Cut into pieces to create flaky layers.
  • 0.5 cups Milk Adds moisture, resulting in a rich, soft texture.
  • 1 large Egg Binds the ingredients together.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract Provides a warm, aromatic flavor.

For the strawberries

  • 2 cups Sliced Strawberries The star of the show, juicy and bright.
  • 0.25 cups Sugar (to macerate berries) Draws out their natural juices for a lovely syrupy texture.

For the whipped cream

  • 1 cup Whipping Cream Whipped into fluffy peaks for a creamy topping.
  • 2 tbsp Confectioners' Sugar Sweetens the whipped cream.
  • 0.5 tsp Vanilla Extract (for cream) Enhances the flavor of the whipped topping.

For the strawberry sauce

  • 0.5 cups Strawberry Preserves Used to create a luscious sauce.
  • 2 tbsp Water Helps to dissolve the preserves into a syrup.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease an 8-inch cake pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir until well mixed.
  • Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

Baking

  • Spread the batter evenly in the greased cake pan and bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool on a rack.

Macerating Strawberries

  • While the cake cools, toss the sliced strawberries with 1/4 cup of sugar and let them sit for 30 minutes to macerate.

Making Whipped Cream

  • Beat the whipping cream with the confectioners' sugar and 1/2 tsp of vanilla until soft peaks form.

Preparing Strawberry Sauce

  • Heat the strawberry preserves with 2 tablespoons of water until syrupy.

Assembly

  • Once the cake has cooled, slice it in half. Layer the bottom half with whipped cream and then the macerated strawberries.
  • Place the top layer back on, and finish with more cream, strawberries, and drizzle with the strawberry sauce.
  • Garnish with extra strawberries and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

For optimal results, maintain cold butter for a flaky texture in your cake and ensure strawberries are macerated sufficiently.
